interwebz.
However, because I belonged to a fairly well-to-do family that gave us the means to explore the many possibilities modern technology has to offer, I was introduced to the internet in my final year of elementary. I emulated my older brother and spent some time in chat rooms, talking to older foreigners who found it hard to believe how young I really was. Again, unlike some of my peers that have had traumatizing experiences with mean people or even pedophiles, the people that I met were generally nice and friendly.
When I had ventured to surfing the internet, I began by posting a WANTED: PEN PAL on a child-friendly website. I met a girl from this country that I would eventually become good friends with. Incidentally, she was the one that encouraged me to start blogging five years ago. I have been sharing my thoughts on cyberspace on and off (mostly off) ever since.
While I still enjoy blogging occasionally, the service that I am undeniably addicted to is the social networking sites. I can spend hours on end on these sites just talking to my friends (especially those I don’t see anymore) and – as much as I am ashamed to say it – anonymously stalk people I’m interested in.
Using the internet is a good way to pass time but more importantly, many people rely on it to keep them connected to long-lost friends or to even meet new people. Nonetheless, I still believe that the availability and convenience of the internet stops us from exerting the extra effort to find time for the people that matter to us and maybe even the opportunity to explore and venture out to worlds unknown to actually socialize and mingle in real life.
Oral VS Written Culture
SONA
my EXPERIENCE=)
One of my favorite site is "COSMOPOLITAN.COM" grabeh! I really love the site, a lot of articles/ videos / new tips about your hairstyle, make-ups, the way you dress, taking care of your relationship, career and about your own self. Cheap way to improve my knowledge, the time that i used to surf is enjoyable, I constantly learning new things and anytime I need the information, easy to retrieve.=)
Let's do it orally written
We have an argument about Oral teaching over Written form of teaching, if you would ask me I would be glad to have both. Learning is very vast and extensive so we must maximize our learning capacities. We all know that learning will not stop after we graduate and we also learn from our own experiences in life that would teach us very valuable things. For my opinion, I would say we should grab what learning opportunity we would have and would not matter if we have Books, internet or just by a Professor explaining in the classroom.
Some people have their own weaknesses like for a majority of people have the case of ADD's and ADHD's which are Attention Deficit Disorder cases that they can not focus on some things in a span of time and I myself think that I may have a minor case but others have still try and do what they have to do. Sickness is not the persons fault that is why there should be a majority of techniques we have to chose from teaching. I think this is one problem the society of teaching must concentrate about and maybe they have ADD as well. The schools methods are still upgrading and surely more methods will be adapted through time because there will always be room for improvments.
People have their own way of expressing themselves and some can have a better mode of explaining towards their chosen medium of communication that is why people have their own advantages to some mediums of information.
Bloggers can express themselves better rather than giving a speech to the people and it is because it is their strength compared to a person who prefers having a classic way of discussion towards the people around them.
Learning is an ever improving source of mediums that will always be renewing so that the future generation will have better ways of teaching and passing information towards people. For now, I can base myself on just picking one method of learning from oral or written but I choose both.
Like the quote we all are familiar from : "Knowlede is power"
This is all
State of nation of domination
State of The Nation of Domination
We are all aware that a State of The Nation Address was help by our very own President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and there were a lot of reactions towards this. As usual there will always be both sides of the people on how they accept the address given.
I think that it is already normal that there will always be violent protesters that would always try and maul the event. To be honest, I was not able to watch the SONA because we had our classes in school but I will still have to read the details over the weekend. I assumed that every year this has always been done and as what I can see, it is just always the same. The president would surely fabricate most of the achievements he/ he has done. In my perspective I would believe her when I see it with my own eyes. There would not be a change if people would not act on it. Before some people say anything for or against anyone, instead of just talking, better act on it.
I would be supporter of our president if I can see the change within the society and yeah I have seen some changes that is why I keep my mouth shut against her and yes I do give her slack because making a change around hard headed Filipino people living in the 21st century third world country is not that easy to do. All I can say is that before people judge and blame some people, we better look at the mirror and ask if we are doing what we are suppose to do. If you want change we better start on ourselves.
DANS GUARDIAN VALUES OUR EDUCATION
Cyberspace searching
Ever since education and formal principle of work is developed by man to correspond with all the incredible necessities demanded by modern day civilization, man has come up with tons of devices and sophisticated technology to answer this gigantic necessity. In line with this inventions are that of the Encyclopedias and incredible stacks of informative books collected for public utility. However, such things doesn’t answer a fraction of what the whole world requires when it comes to academic and work related matters.
However, one of the most incredible and phenomenal attributions of modern man to technology internet or cyberspace to correspond to our immediate demand for information. With all the marketing paraphernalia and telecommunication benefits present today. Cyberspace provides an infinite horizon of huge data form all other parts of the world together with all the telecommunication benefits used by everyone from toddlers to working people. As an ordinary student of this current period. I am involved in hundreds of academic research works and instant messaging that can only be found in cyberspace. Information from dinosaurs to machine guns stored from all parts of the world and tons of people seem to upload their products and information since internet marketing is cheap and can be made to function with immense ease as long as you are able to place input on your own section. Through this capability certain professors are already suggesting students to forward their paperwork through e-mail. I can also talk to people form the other side of the globe and get immediate responses. Other improvised technologies can be upgraded through the help of the internet and can enable somebody to view and talk to people from intense distances. I find this capability as a fantastic and very useful kind of way in getting connected to people we know. Certain events can also be recorded and then uploaded to Youtube that enables people all over the world to see and comment about it as well. Although, cyberspace enables everyone to use such technology, people have come up with certain formats that block certain sites and this somehow limits the full potential of cyberspace in certain contexts. This has been formulated in order to limit certain items that may seem to be disruptive to certain users.
With all these features given by cyberspace, I think that is a much of a very useful thing that can be manipulated by man in order fro it to function well. It has made schoolwork and work tasks a lot more easier for people.
Talk is Cheap
There are many reasons why people don’t accomplish what they swore they would when they were talking. Sometimes they couldn’t (something is preventing them from doing what they said they would), sometimes they wouldn’t (they just don’t want to do it anymore) and sometimes they simply forget or pretend to forget what they said.
And when they are unable to remember (or pretend to, anyway) the conversation, what can you do about it, really?
Unless you bring around a recorder or even a video camera and document everything that people tell you, you have no proof that it was promised to you in the first place. Because there is something ultimately tangible about anything said face to face or over the phone, if something bad happens, it will only be your word against mine.
If what slipped that person’s mind is something simple like my brother telling me that he will pick me up after school but forgetting that he promised me he would, then it is easily resolved.
However, if it’s something more important like when somebody is spreading a malicious rumor about another person, it is an example of one or both:
1. Gross disrespect, in words or deed, for school personnel or student in authority and conduct unbecoming of a mature and responsible individual.
3. Dishonesty such as academic dishonesty, forgery, tampering of official documents, deception or fraud including aiding and abetting dishonesty
While it is certainly a violation of basic courtesy that justifies a complaint, it’s hard to do anything about it if the person that was spreading the rumors against another person just said it and it was only passed around by word of mouth. It’s always easier to be credible when you have cold, hard evidence in your hands that traces the source of the gossip back to the person.
Sadly even if you had a written statement or a signed contract, you can’t do anything about if the person couldn’t, wouldn’t or is simply unwilling to fulfill his or her promise or face the consequences of his or her actions. Except maybe drag him or her kicking and screaming into a tub of boiling honey and kicking him or her into a pool of red fire ants.
Oral versus Written
For us Filipinos, I can say that we are more of oral communicators. We are storytellers by nature. The legends and epics from our ancestors lasted because they were passed by word of mouth until it was written and published in books. We have writers but I think there are just a few of them. Even until now, in the Internet, even if websites are available to read the news from the leading newspapers in the country, most of my friends would still watch the TV, videos from the Internet or sometimes wait and ask someone to talk about the news with them.
But for me, I think it depends on the communication’s purpose. I would prefer reading a letter from a friend when he or she is not really comfortable talking about a topic in a face to face situation or through oral communication but there are also times that I prefer talking things face to face, most especially when I think that an urgent feedback is needed, oral communication helps because you can see the person’s emotion and movements right before your eyes.
The oral and written communication possesses strengths and weaknesses that should be considered in deciding on what mode or type of communication to use in a given situation or in a particular person. Both would offer important and powerful ways of communicating even how dynamic the nature of communication will be in the future.

letters speak louder than words
it surprises me how Filipinos make everything seem fast-paced even in communicating. they communicate as if they have their own language and surprisingly, even if you are a stranger, you would understand who, what is talking about.
we all learned how to move fast. eat fast.talk fast.walk fast.think fast. decide fast.
"at utakan ang mga mababagal"
I say, what drives some Filipinos not to depend on others is because of hard life.
"MAHIRAP ANG BUHAY"
We do not notice that we have a lot of potential. "UTAKAN ANG MGA DAYUHAN"
" hindi ako maniniwala sayo hangang wala pa akong nakikitang papeles! "
Filipinos are very " MADISKARTE". We find ways to make what we want happen. what is so unique about this characteristic is that " ANG MGA DAYUHAN, HINDI MARUNONG DUMISKARTE". If there are foreigners like, its either they are half filipino or his/her mom or his/her dad is a filipino. even though others are very unfortunate, and did not have any education.they are "MADISKARTE" in surviving their everyday life.
It is disappointing to know that people take what they have for granted. and later on regret about the things they should have done and not move on.
OKI NA SANA PERO SANA SONA
This year's SONA appeared to be more of a persuasive speech than an address for the nation. . . parang nasa langit. . . ngunit ang totoo'y paralamang panaginip. . .
But I must also say that this year’s SONA improved (at least in its format and presentation). It is a lot better compared with the previous years. It can be observed that while the President was doing her speech, a video presentation served as a visual aid to help the audience clearly understand the information stated in the SONA but still the viewers at home wasn’t be able to see it. Another improvement that I was really hoping to happen in a SONA is to deliver it in a way or in a language that larger number of people, including most especially the masses would understand. The President did a Taglish delivery of the SONA which I think was good. I could say that because of this, more people were able to understand and catch the message of her SONA. But there’s one thing that I observed while she did this strategy of delivering the SONA. Most of the time she spoke in straight Filipino when she is explaining or saying good news, accomplishments, future plans of her government. She spoke in Filipino when she told the good things that people can look forward in the government for the years to come but when she was explaining the global crisis that covers the country today and the reality that prices of food and fuel will still stick to high costs, she plainly and purely used English. Is that a strategy for the people to retain the Filipino words stated in the SONA which were purely good news? Still, I am hoping that there will be a Philippine President who will do a SONA in pure Filipino and will let the subtitles do the job for the rest who only understands English. (hehehe)
One thing that I disliked in the SONA was the fact that the President took a bunch of the time enumerating the benefits that VAT gave the people, to a point of attributing the country’s survival in the global crisis because of it. I would like to believe that but still the food commodities’ prices are too high for many people. For this year’s SONA, it is surprising that I would site a favorite line by the President, a statement that can be powerful to move the country and its leaders, “Leadership is doing what’s necessary however hard it is. . . We are one nation with one faith.” I guess in these words of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, finally, no one would ever try to counter.
tuwing SONA, matangkad si GLORIA!
Again, State of the Nation
State of the Nation
State of the Nation
State of the Nation
Nation=Philippines
State of the Nation
*Oops, sorry. I'm just trying to convince myself that the recent SONA of our beloved president is really about the status of our nation now...*
Ayos! Nosebleed. Haha. Kidding aside, I almost liked the speech. Pero siguro, I'd like it more kung si Gandhi nagspeech or si Martin Luther. Para kasing mas totoo pag sila. Joke lang! :))
PGMA discussed how the economy raised few years ago and now it's falling fast. Siguro mabilis yung pag-angat natin noon. Or yung, the faster you rise, the harder you fall. Wow, english! Kasi nga diba obvious naman na yung pagbagsak ng ekonomiya natin ngayon flashes before our very eyes. Gets? Ako din eh, nalabuan ako. Pero parang naintindihan ko naman. Kaya ok na yan.
I liked the SONA kasi infairview (gay term for "in fairness"), totoo yung nilalaman.
"Whatever the reasons, we are on a roller coaster ride of oil price hikes, high food prices and looming economic recession in the US and other markets. Uncertainty has moved like a terrible tsunami around the globe, wiping away gains, erasing progress."
Kung ang mga Pilipino eh puro nalang pangangatwiran ang alam, then we deserve what we have right now. Example diba, kung ang isang babae eh pinaghahanap ng trabaho yung asawa niya para naman guminhawa sila, tapso etong si lalaki puro nalang dahilan na trapik, magastos magkomyut, hind nakatapos, ang mga trabaho para sa mga mayayaman, and so on and so forth, aba'y talagang walang mangyayari. But if no matter what the circumstances the husband may face para lang makahanap ng trabaho para maiangat ang buhay ng pamilya niya, then it will happen.
Patience is a vitue. Honesty is the best policy. Try and try until you succeed.
OKAY??!! (Hoooo. Relaks Maren, relaks.) Okay? :)
BOW ♥
oral and written culture
example:
people would prefer to use a dictionary whenever they want to find the meaning of a word because it contains right information. compared to getting meanings oraly, the meaning can be changed it just depends on how the person understand the word that you are asking.
Oral Communication ♥
The way of intercommunication keeps on changing through time. Before, we only have it orally which was a little bit hard to keep record after it is already said and heard. Since it’s more like hearsay, people tend to add information that is not factual and inaccurate. That’s why most of the times before, people get perplexed on whichever to believe in because there are different versions of news going around but only talking about the same thing. Years later, the oral culture was upgraded when written art arises. Now, news is more credible since the articles are written and people can sue the writers by saying things that are not credible and true. Columnists should also include in their article the sources from which they get the facts they have written and probably contact numbers of the people they interviewed related to the write up they are doing if there are any. Right now, it gets better and better when broadcasting makes news come live. We watch news as it happens and where it happens as if we are exactly part of the news itself. It’s also more clarified than before since we don’t only depend on articles as proofs, there are also videos and audio to show what’s exactly is happening. Currently, multimedia communication is what makes our life less complicated and easier. We can have a grip on the whole world by simply connecting to the internet. Using the net, we can have the easiest access to anything under the sun, meaning to say there are limitless things we can do on the net. We are able to get what’s latest, hottest and what’s new at different place no matter how far or near it is. We get different and new ideas just upon reading few articles and news written on the net, we also have the very famous online messengers which makes us easier to communicate with people from any part of the world without too much hassle. Just see how easier life was when these updates came to life, before there’s no other way of communicating with people but by speaking to them face to face. But now, communicating is just as easy as breathing. So meaning to say, as time progress, the way of communication also heats up. From oral culture, there comes the written art until broadcasting and multimedia follows which makes all easier for us. It’s all positive because people’s way of living today is in a rush, we are all busy with several things and probably without the upgraded features of communicating, we might lose tract of the people we have to stay connected with but because of multimedia and broadcasting, no matter how busy we become, it’s not that hard to get connected with special persons in our life and to the world as well.
Oral or Written?
Today, written communication is the world wide used in recording something important. Just what i have said before, information passed on orally could not be the exact information from the source. Whereas if the information is written by the source, then the information is somewhat like 100% true.
In my opinion, if the information i want others to know is something special or emotional or personal I would definitely speak it out. I remember having friends living overseas and we can not comunicate orally all the time. We phone each other to hear what we have to say during special occasions. But i guess written communication is okay.
Mig's INTERNOT experience
Today is July 21, 2008. My entire class schedule was spent at the New Lab and fortunately, our activity for COMPMED class is to search the Internet and look for hindrances that stop me from doing my research. I’ll use the my experience today as an example
For our first class today which was COMPART, we had to do color schemes for Adobe Photoshop. We had to look for a black and white picture on the internet, I searched Spongebob Squarepants as my model, the funny thing is when I selected my first picture, Dans Guardian was activated citing that it was inappropriate and contained pornography, meaning I couldn’t download the picture of Spongebob. I looked for another one which looked a lot like the first and it was approved. It's funny at first but gets kinda annoying everytime you search for school related information at our lab. My intentions are all good, I want to pass but the school might be a little too defensive with the firewall.
my internet experience
For this class, we are tasked to surf the net and write about what we observed. There are only 4 sites that I usually got o when I surf the net. These are Multiply, Yahoo, Google, and of course the ever popular site, FRIENDSTER. Too bad we’re not allowed to access this site in school. I Yahoo and Google for research purposes and for emails only. What I could say about it is that you can find anything in it that’s why it’s very useful for me. I just used my email account in yahoo. This is where I usually send important files for most of my class. This is my only email account because I find it easier to use and I’m used to it already. I also visited google.com. I usually visit this site to search images or play games. Most of the time I play Bejeweled, it’s a game that you have to align three similar jewels either horizontally or vertically. It’s really fun. Sometimes, I search for letterings and try to draw them in a piece of paper. I prefer searching in google because it has more information than yahoo. Lastly, the first site that I have opened is Multiply. This is where I post pictures. And I also use it to communicate with my friends who migrated to another country. I could also find pictures that I could grab from other people’s sites.
Jed's Internet Experience
Being a fan of tattoo art makes me want to make my own design. I admire their style because it is different from the traditional art. Browsing for pictures of tattoo styles gives me more ideas and tips on how I can make my own thing by mixing different designs in one canvas. Some sites are being blocked by Dans Guardian because other tattoos are done on genitals and other sensitive parts of the body. Those parts are considered pornography by Dans Guardian.
Right now, I am also chatting with my long lost family friend. I haven’t seen her for years. We were still young and small when we saw each other. Now, through Yahoo Messenger, we were able to catch up and plan to have lunch or may be dinner.
My Internet Experience
One of these discoveries is finding online friends community. Friendster, facebook, multiply and myspace are just a few of the popular online communities here in the country. There are advantages and disadvantages with these however. In these accounts, the owner could upload files such as pictures, music, and videos. Some pretty good hackers could easily get in one’s account and could expose whatever files they could get anywhere within the internet.
On the other hand, these online communities could get one in touch with the people overseas. For my case, I am very thankful to discover facebook. I have communication with my foreign friends from high school through this magnificent technology. I could easily see what they look like now after five years. I would just recommend people to make their accounts private so that they will not get in trouble when facing a not so good situation with the hackers.
I also like browsing on articles such as news and features. Search engines provide interesting feature stories. Mostly is international news. It is very interesting to know what is going on with the world. My favorite site, just to mention, is the national geographic site. There are so many good things in that site. There are also incredible pictures from real events by real people.
Internet is one of the most fascinating discoveries of man. We should use it in a good way or else we could get ourselves in trouble.

SONA
- "Mabawasan ang ating mga utang and shore up our fiscal independence." Wow taglish! "Shore up our fiscal independence", ano yun? di ko gets!
- "Higit na pamumuhunan para mamamayan at imprastraktura" Anong imprastraktura? Elevated U-Turn?
Internet Usage Experience in DLSC
After surfing for a few minutes one realizes that there are certain sites, which the regular DLSC student would go to, that are blocked by the school’s internet safety system, Dan’s Guardian. Though the safety system not only prevents sites with malicious content but also sites that “Dan” would consider pointless and not connected to educational content; So one could say that safety here is not only for pornographic or violent material, but for sites and applications that encourage distraction from studying or research such as social connectivity sites much like Facebook or Friendster.
The school’s primary purpose for internet usage is to facilitate and allow to students to conduct internet research for school papers and projects, as well to check email. I understand the school’s blockage of pornographic material or violent content, as these would go against moral issues that the school upholds as well as the school not having any medical or psychological courses that may deal with these topics. The problem I see is the prevention of social connectivity sites, because with the advancements made in internet connectivity, students not only connect with email but with several methods as well.
My usual routine when connecting to the internet, I would open up three tabs. In each of these tabs I go through the usual sites that I frequently visit. The first being my Multiply account, this helps me with viewing whatever my friends and relatives are up to or any announcements that might be necessary. I also use multiply to display my online portfolio, as I am into photography and arts, it helps me show clients and potential clients current and previous works. The second would be Facebook, this is much like multiply but with a more complex and intimate connectivity with peers, I use this to have a more updated relationship with my peers as it contains status updates, event invites and announcements. Some would refer to this as an online community gazette. Unfortunately Dan’s Guardian blocks this and prevents access, listing it as a banned site. The third tab would contain my email account for internet correspondence. After checking these I would then change each tab to message forums that I frequent that keep me updated with current events in society and my hobby and part time profession, which is photography.
I could only hope that social connectivity sites be allowed in school, as some students who prefer using the school’s internet, for those who do not have connections at home or at their dorm, be allowed. Even if they’re only unblocked at certain times to allow students to connect with their peers, as email these days isn’t as instant as it used to be.
Oral Tradition versus Written Tradition
In contrary with the oral tradition, the written tradition is passed down to generations with a concrete evidence. Today, our constitution are examples of written tradition. Lawmakers revise the law to make it suitable for the citizen of a certain country.
The Holy Bible is a form of written tradition

Internet is one of the most special technologies that have ever been developed. I like surfing the net a lot. There are so many things that a person could discover through browsing the net.

SONA
our country has alot of problems and i think instead of blaming other people, we should try to help them. i still believe that our economy can still improve. we just have to cooperate.
SONA
I did not have the time to watch President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's 7th SONA for our country, i watched it from the late news of GMA channel 7. So here are some points of President Gloria Macacpagal Arroyo that i remembered from the late news of GMA 7 which is SAKSI. From SAKSI they said that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo annouced the .50 cent per text approved the national telecommunications and she was the one who talked to those people to lessen the amount. But, she did not mentioned that this offer is until October 22, 2008. Second, she defend the VAT of oil. she said that if we will take off VAT the high class people will get the benefit and lowers ones will much become poorer. Becuase, the money that our government used for education, housing, land tranportation repair etc. are coming from the VAT. She also mention about the Re-activation of the contract in Agrarian and giving funds for the Anti-Graft and Correption, to fight them. She also said that she's supporting the Natural Method. Others said that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo didn't focus on livelihood program and education.
Internet Mania
Net Surfing ♥
Surfing the net is one of my favorite past time to somehow sidestep boredom and basically everyone else’s. We are all aware that in plainly using internet, there are open-ended and boundless things we can do and at the same time learn but the access here at school is very impulsive. Like for example on my part, I can’t open sites that are related to music considering the fact that I love listening to it. Another is friendster is banned as well when in fact most students have accounts on it, so simply, the internet here is useless and it just pisses people off because it can’t actually divert students from being bored. The only thing we can do is search for things that are academically related, what’s faulty is that we pay for the usage of internet then we get nothing positive out of it, worst is when we have something to do and there’s an ongoing class, we will be forced to go out and leave instead of doing what we have to. Sounds rude but that happens at times.
I don’t want to be bias or anything to just focusing and pointing on negative things upon the internet usage in the school but it’s really hard to relate a good part when it comes to this matter. I mean how I would write something good about it when there’s really nothing adequate regarding to it, more to say, it’s just a waste of money because we pay for something that we can’t really use. Sometimes even for academic purpose, it fail to help students as well. Like we have a subject called COMPART and we always have to find pictures and images for us to edit and somehow upgrade, but there are very limited varieties of copies because of Dansguardian. Students can’t freely browse pictures and we can hardly find perfect image to use on that subject so we end up having something na we can say “pwede na” instead of something na “pwedeng pwede” instead.
Well, maybe there’s a little bit positive about the connection. We can play games sometimes but that happens very seldom. There are sites with different games and it’s not banned like games to girls and addicting games but because I’m not the type that was so into gaming, I really didn’t find it much interesting. It’ll be more fun if they allow music sites to be viewed because what’s the point of banning those sites right? Those are just music and there’s nothing bad about it. It’s just frustrating that they have to ban sites that most students would enjoy visiting, maybe to limit students from using the net.
Another is the takes so long to load a single page. Instead of avoiding boredom, it kills us more just upon waiting and in turn we’ll find out that the page we are waiting to load was banned. Sad to say, I wasn’t able to say much positive things about the net connection because there’s really nothing good about it. Mainly, we can only use yahoo, Google, MSN and sites like that only and we pay for it but we don’t enjoy the use of it. Aside from we have limited searches to do, it’s very slow so I prefer to search somewhere else instead rather that here.
My Internet Experience
I started using the Internet when I was in 1st year high school. I used it for my research, purely school stuffs. I don’t have time for any other account like Friendster, My space and other web sites that look like gathering people to see your site, because I am enrolled at a Science High School so I used the internet for my scientist research. I don’t care about the other sites. Before I just want to have an internet for my studies
But a year later I transferred to a more independent school that not so strictly focuses on science stuffs. I started to have a yahoo! Mail account, a Friendster (that ever one has) and a My space. I already started to surf site that are not quite interesting. I made a Yahoo! Mail account to e-mail my relatives that were in abroad to e-mail my teachers if I have to make an extra exam for a particular subject and to pass our research paper online just to pass it on time. Then I made Friendster and My Space for my long lost friends, to have some news about them.
Now, how’s my internet experience? I’ve been here at De La Salle Canlubang for 1 year and a half. When I was at my first year college were allowed to use the internet anytime if there’s no on going class inside, we can check our Friendster and Multiply account back then. But now, the school surfer banned the other site because students always check their different accounts. They have locked the desktop and ask from the ITC office to unlock it (a very wise idea). My internet experience here ate school is mostly okay. I could check my Yahoo! Mail and Multiply any time I want. I could research my topic for a report and assignment earlier or 60 minutes before my class started. It help me for my school stuffs. I’m opening my Multiply account to check what happened last night at my friends despedida and my friends birthday. I want to see their crazy and humble shots!
So usually internet here in school help me to pass my assignments to my professors especially in our compart class wherein we have to send the activity before the class ends. It help me to stay in tacked with my friends. (=
SONA
SONA Baduy!!!!
The president has given her 8th SONA last Monday, 28 July 2008. I have only heard a few lines from the speech and so far I have heard not so good comments about it. I heard GMA talked about something with the telecommunication companies giving a more affordable load for their subscribers. I guess many people were happy about it. It turns out that GMA has not talk to any of the Telecomm companies about this issue. I’m also confused!
Anyways, another issue is about the President’s stand on family planning. I think she was on the Catholic Church’s side, but now one of her priorities is about population control. So she must have thought about the “unnatural” family program now that there are so many babies around with no possible good future.
There are no major changes on the president’s SONA today from her last one. I hope that there will be something she could actually do about the Philippines condition while she’s in position.
battle between oral and written
One of the best contributions of the introduction of written communication is that one is able to jot down his thoughts without having to worry about losing it. I can just imagine how people in the early times used leaves and rocks to write their thoughts. What a brilliant idea that was. And I am sensing that people did that because they could not just keep their thoughts to themselves. They had to somehow blurt it out, reveal to the world that they had these thoughts in mind. And as it turned out, their ideas became immortal. Besides, one would go crazy if he keeps everything to himself, to his own mind. I can’t imagine that happening to me. Written communication allows us to “fix information”. It’s an advantage to see your thoughts and ideas come out of your mind and seeing them on paper or in the computer, just like what I am doing now. And if there’s anything that you wish to hide, you can just easily erase it and no one else will ever have to find out what you had in mind.
Personally, I prefer writing than talking. I am especially not fond of reporting because ideas tend to get stuck in my mind that it could leave me speechless. I find it hard to explain and express myself when I’m just saying it verbally whereas if I’m writing things down. You are somehow limited to what information you have at the moment you are talking. But when you’re writing, you can always go back to the things that seemed incomplete and take advantage of the opportunity to revise them.
The beginning of multimedia enhanced the capabilities of individuals to understand information. You are not just hearing the information but seeing the person who is actually saying it. You can then comprehend what that person really means by just noticing his or her expressions or even body language. I love the concept of advertising and I am really hands down to those people who created one of a kind ads. if love watching them over and over again in youtube and I am always amazed by the amount of creativity these people had. A professor once said that advertising is all about ideas – ideas that you would want to come to life. I think this is one of the effects of multimedia. Commercial products can be easily sold because of ads and you won’t even believe the amount of people that they can manipulate because of these ads or is “influence” a better word?
I guess even more advancements will come in the future and whether or not it will be good for the next generation, one thing’s for sure – it will definitely make life easier.
THE SONA
Our democratic nation are annually brought to awareness of what has been really happening and incurring on the welfare of each and every citizen of this country. This is announced by the one and only person who are in charge and capable of implementing authority to further improve our national status. That person is our president, the person that corresponding citizens have put to authority and control over all that can manipulate our national status.
But what is it that really occurs under the awareness of thousands on our country? This can therefore be replied by the national report of our president. In her SONA, that is fed to the mentality of the numerous Filipinos, concerned and not concerned alike. All that has been promised and said on her report, seem to echo the rampant and incredible promises politicians have promised to the public before they were put to position. Now, after quite a period since our leaders, were brought to authority, those promises are still awaited by the people to happen. The president has let out a continuous array of educated and astounding sentences that may probably appease to the influential upper and middle class of the citizens of the society and so further increase the credibility and approve of her presidency. But these upper class and middle classed citizens are just of a fraction that corresponds to just a little speck of what really makes up of the Filipino country. A good reason of why she had used such literate manner for her SONA, is to secure her of the favor of those influential enough to retain her in position and throw off the administration. Along the SONA, the president used certain Filipino words that can pertain to the common public citizens of this nation. But what really contains of those paragraphs are just a mere announcement of what she is doing to resolve our crisis and not what the past implementation have resulted to for the welfare of the republic. The president have also stated out examples of certain Filipinos that can never represent the slightest fraction of what the population consists of.
Although, the examples of how these specific Filipinos are affected by her works can never spell out a massive and significant effect towards our national welfare. I am not distinguishing her regime and rule as a useless worsening of past crisis. And I can also never protest to how she runs the republic because I have not a single method of what to implement in order to improve the national status. All that I am trying to tell is that our country consists not only of our elected leaders but of the whole public as well. Both of these gigantic forces should therefore merge together and diminish any manner of separation and we can then collaborate better and work for a better country
what i do when i surf
One of my most favorite things in the net is to search for the latest entertainment news. Yes, I love gossip news but not the local ones we have here. I’m more interested in knowing the latest in Hollywood. Aside from that, I like checking out business sites such as e-bay or online shopping sites like kohls.com or ae.com. My biggest problem in these sites is that they are only available in the United States. I wish Asian people like me could also avail of their products. Anyway, I noticed that clothing and apparel brands here in the Philippines do not really have their own websites or they have one but not updated. Among the brands that I have visited are Kamiseta and Team Manila. I could say that I did enjoy visiting them even though the stuffs are kind of pricy.
It may not come as a surprise but apparently, the first thing I do when I use the computer and I’m connected to the Internet is to check my friendster account. Actually, I check it more often than my email accounts. I guess there’s excitement in anticipating who has left a comment on your profile or the new friends who have invited you as a friend. Thanks to friendster, I am connected to my friends date back to my grade school years. Alongside checking out social sites, I also enjoy visiting the Real Madrid website obviously because I am a big fan of the team. I don’t get to watch soccer that much compared before now that I’m back here in the Philippines and so I only get updated when I visit soccer sites such as that.
Utilizing the computer in school is a different experience than using the one at home. Why? First of all, as students who pay for our computer and internet fee in school, we don’t get to use the computer all the time especially when classes are being held in the lab. To be honest, it is only in this term that I got to really use the lab very often. At least, I know that what we are paying for does not go to waste. Another problem is Dansguardian. It’s one of my biggest complaints because there are some sites that do not need to be censored by the school. Particularly, I find it difficult to access in Yahoo images because some computers in the lab don’t allow it. it may sound exaggerated but it actually eats your time especially when you’re doing a complicated activity in Compart and you don’t have enough time to finish it.
Games2girls is one site that I love to visit. It’s a site that offers the coolest games for girls (as the name implies). The dominance of the pink color, I think, is one of the reasons that attracted me to it. Well, it’s not because my favorite color is pink but it’s that feeling of going back to being a child again every time I visit the site. Nevertheless, most of the games are also good and fun.
Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of my time using the computer because most of my classes this term require me to do so – from searching for topics and what could be reported to finding a solution for my boring and “pathetic” drama script. It just shows that you can find answers to almost all of your concerns on the net. You can even find gazillions of apple-pie recipes that sometimes you don’t know which the best is. Thanks to Bill Gates and the inventor of Yahoo and whoever is involved in the cyberspace technology, Internet does makes complex things easier and life better.
INTERNET SURFING
Every time I try to surf the internet at school, I always feel a little bit deprived of the freedom that I usually have at home. That’s because there is this certain program that blocks all the community sites and porn sites (the banned sites). I don’t blame them for doing that and I think that it’s only practical for them to apply that program in every computer at school. But then, there are these instances that DANS GUARDIAN (the certain program that blocks banned sites) automatically block sites that are not suppose to be banned, which is annoying. You cannot actually do your work properly because of this program.
Like for example, today, we were asked to look for a picture that we would want to work on for our COMPART class. However, with Dans Guardian installed in the computers, I am then limited to the sites and pictures. I was disappointed and also surprised by the fact that I can’t work on some Disney characters because as what Dans Guardian showed me, that it has porn and has sexually explicit visuals. And thus, the site is banned.
So, internet surfing at school has its limits. You cannot search anything that has some kind of porn with it. You cannot also log on to community sites like Friendster and Facebook, though its okay.
netXperience
My normal routine when I log on to the internet is: check my yahoo mail, check facebook, look at flickr for jewelry, and look at other sites that will give me craft ideas. But since I am in the school computer lab I am not able to look at facebook. This is actually the only thing I can’t look at. I completely understand why they don’t allow these kinds of sites. I mean we are in a school we shouldn’t be looking at networking sites that may possibly have bad content.
So right now I’m looking at flicker, I’m looking at bracelet ideas because I’m going to start a new bracelet collection. So far everything is going well, although there was one page that was banned and I don’t really know why because my search is specific to bracelets. So that is a little frustrating because you never know that page may have the best bracelets. But its alright I have actually gotten a couple of ideas because of this compmed exercise.
I’m done looking at flickr, now I will check the Martha Stewart site. I get recipes, crafts, and many other ideas from here. The Martha Stewart site is very well made and very organized; it makes it easy for someone like me who doesn’t like being hassled when searching.
I really don’t have any complaints using the internet here in the computer lab, there are just times that I would like to look at certain pictures but for some reason I can’t because it is blocked. But all in all I think the staff for the computer labs are doing a good job.
my internet experience
When I have the use of the internet, which is usually a lot, it is a lot easier for me to do any of my work. There are plenty of different sites that provide all kinds of information about the certain topic that I am researching. Although sometimes it is very difficult to know which sites provide the proper information about your certain topic.
Research is not the only thing I use the internet for. There are plenty of things that can be done with the use of the internet. Instead of snail mail there is now email. Most people, like me have plenty of accounts over the internet. And I also have more than one email account. The internet is a great way to keep connected with your peers who travel abroad. The only down side is if the person who went abroad does not have internet or may not have access to a computer.
A lot of people praise the internet when it was created. It has made a lot of people’s lives easier. I find the internet very useful and I am grateful. I’m the type of person who wants to keep in contact with people where ever they may move to. But when it comes to actually writing a letter and having to go to the post office just to send one letter I get lazy easily and wouldn’t write anymore. But with the internet I don’t even need to leave the house. Although, my laziness has hit me stronger and even though it is less of a hassle to send letters these days, I still do not send emails because of my laziness. Now that is not a problem of the internet. That is a problem with myself.
The only means that I have of communicating with the use of the internet is chatting, Yahoo Messenger or Gtalk which is provided by Google. It always seems to be more fun for me to communicate with others when I send a message and they reply back very easily. I get updated so fast and don’t have to wait for a long time to reply. With chatting I get to say a lot more than I want to and it’s just much better.
Internet has really been a major part of everybody’s life. I am very appreciative of the person who created the internet for they have really found and easier way for people to research or get in contact with others without a lot of a hassle.
what the president had to say..again
When I spent a year of studying in the US, I realized that only if the government cared too much about our people then there would be enough chairs and teachers for one classroom or that every child will be educated. But it isn’t like that and I hate to know that the government only made promises but was never faithful to them. I lived in the state of Washington where they include taxes for anything you purchase. That was okay I guess because you can see where those taxes go. But to do taxing here in the Philippines would not be good. I mean can you actually feel that our economy is improving? Pres. Arroyo had this statement to say about denouncing the issue of scrapping Value Added Tax (VAT) in our country: "If we remove the VAT, business confidence will decline, interest rates will go up, the more the value of the peso will fall, and the more commodity prices will rise. If we remove the VAT on oil and electricity, we will lose P80 billion for the poor. It will strip the majority of our people of the means to ride out the world food and energy crisis." Oh yeah P80 billion for the poor? Like where did that money come from? And how come the poor have not benefited from that still? In my opinion, there is no way that poverty will be diminished in our country if the government will not do anything about corruption. I think they should practice honesty and sincerity.
The president also mentioned that she would impose stricter policies on the Anti-Graft Law. I think she should do that in her family as well. I don’t mean to be really cynical about this but if I were the president and I knew I did something really bad to our country, I wouldn’t have the guts to speak in front with the whole Philippines as my audience and boast about the improvements I’ve done in the country. I mean people do not want to hear promises anymore. We want action and making sure the promises will be done.
On the other hand, one good thing I heard is that the cost of texting has gone down to 50 cents but would only last for three months. And this would be effective starting last night. I tried it actually but I guess the telecommunication companies have forgotten what the president ordered them or they completely ignored it. Anyway, at least that would be a good change.
A president could keep having speeches as such every year but what should matter is that these plans would become a reality or else she just wasted the people’s time in listening to her speech. I really hope good things will come.
ORAL AND WRITTEN
Communication plays a terrific role in linking people with one another and so collaborating to achieve phenomenal output. Hundreds of procedures in communicating has been brought to existence and used by man in order come up with more effective and revolutionary results. From an article discussed in class, we have tackled about how communication changed and so reaching its current state in human history. It has given us principles and thoughts on how does the “cyberspace age” plays a role and affects the awareness of each and everyone in the world.
The world has incredibly increased its population and so requires to a huge number of tasks performed by people in order to correspond with the demands of today’s world. The paper is one of the greatest and phenomenal inventions that man uses in order to prolong pro-long the length on their information and making information incredibly accessible to every citizen as well. As the paper is pioneered and becomes globally used, people still required much more rapid and constant communication. Due to this, people have come up with a new era of technology and communication. A medium in which everyone who is capable can communicate tons of information together with the fantastic uses of multimedia. This method can enable people to communicate regardless of their location.
I as an ordinary student, regards the internet as a gigantic source of information. It has helped give out paperwork and researches to my professors in a few minutes without having to go to them and give it literally. It has linked corporate leaders form opposite sides of the globe into working together and give out better opportunities. People from all over the world are then enabled to help collaborate and help each other through online forums. With this method, a single person can sort of influence people in a worldwide basis without having to go into politics for people to listen. All of these matters are made available to people as long as they have a connection.
With all the incredible and fantastic features that cyberspace can carry at rampant terms, the need of the people hasn’t changed. The basic demands of relaying a message, elaborating points and faster reply are still the same centuries ago. We have just improvised and made communication to people far more easier.
