up up away!

“ lumabas ka nga at maglaro ka” a mother said to his son.

Today, we don’t often see kids playing at the streets creating different kinds of game but we see bikes parked at a house where it’s all covered up. It is funny how technology changed the generations of kids we keep on having. There are these 90’s kids where they can’t and won’t miss a single episode of sineskuwela or batibot or hirayamanawari. And we have the millenium kids, where in they don’t watch tv nor they play outside, they do communicate, its just that with cellphones. We define cellphones as a gadget that could help us communiccate with our clients even from different countries. But theses children doesn’t even go to school yet, they got these high-end cellphones where they text their friends if it’s time for them to go and hangout.

A lot of things have changed since the technology evovled in different levels. And as they improve, it affects the growth of children around the globe. It changed their perspectives and sometimes with their own common sense they rebel against their parents causing a lot chaos in their families.

Meet the CyberKids

Bago ang lahat, tayo ay kumanta. . .

"Batang-bata ka pa at marami ka pang
Kailangang malaman at intindihin sa mundo
Yan ang totoo
Nagkakamali ka kung akala mo na
Ang buhay ay isang mumunting paraiso lamang

Batang-bata ka lang at akala mo na
Na alam mo na ang lahat na kailangan mong malaman
buhay ay di ganyan
Tanggapin mo na lang ang katotohanan
Na ikaw ay isang musmos lang na wala pang alam
Makinig ka na lang, makinig ka na lang. . ."
Try to sing or say this to a kid of these times and most probably you'll hear
them saying, "What are you talking about?" or "Talk to the hand!"
I'm not saying that all of them
will react this way, but I think most of them will. One thing I observe about
kids nowadays is that they feel mature and that they have authority over
themselves. They can also easily interact with adults compared with kids before.
I am always surprised with kids talking and acting like adults.
we can say that this can be an effect of their exposure on the television and especially the Internet. Through the Internet, they can do a lot things. They can discover and know
things that are supposed to be for adults only. And we cannot see pages in the
Internet that says, warning: only for adults or "Parental guidance is recommended", so the kids will think that they also have the freedom to those information. In the long run, they are gradually influenced by the
so-called "reality" that the cyberspace serves them.
But we cannot also blame the kids, they are still their parents' or the adults' responsibilities. Maybe we are too overwhelmed by the advantages we can get from the
cyberspace
that we tend to let the kids
spend hours in the Internet. The kids won't know that they are exposing themselves negatively on cyberspace if the parents or
adults won't do their part in protecting the kids from the possible harms it can bring.
In our house, I act like the DANSGUARDIAN to my
brothers and sisters, I try to monitor the sites they're browsing in the Net and
i also limit their Internet consumption
hehe (that's why they hate
their Ate hahaha).
And i always remind them that the Internet is really
helpful but it does not mean that everything they find there is true and that
they cannot find every answer they need through the Google.hihi
So kahit anu pa sabihin nila, "Batang-bata ka pa at marami ka pang Kailangang malaman at intindihin sa mundo. . .Yan ang totoo. . ."

CYBERSPACE ♥

Cyberspace is basically what makes our life easier and less complex than before. Like for example, it makes researching not as tiring as before when one has to go through lots of process and read different sources before getting the idea they have to use for their topics. Now, all you have to do is surf through the net and scan on finished articles to get the idea you need to know. Next is we learn so many things in a very relaxing way, upon surfing the net, we gather different information about lots of things, the more we visit random sites, the more we open our minds to new things. It’s also a way of side-stepping boredom, in just a snap; we can download music, images, videos that are fun to watch.

We all benefit positively using cyberspace, but there are also negative results that was caused by it. First, we tend to slack off most of the times because we are aware that things are lighter with the help of cyberspace making us some sort of lazy heads. Also, it’s easy browsing at different and multiple sites at a time so what we usually do is multi-task which unconsciously, we became out of focus of whatever that is that we really need to do. Another thing is when we get too hooked on playing computer games, we forget to take care of ourselves and just focus on whatever game we are addicted to. Worst is our world revolves to it to the extent that we are not able to do anything aside of playing and thus resulting to being sick or even death.

So in summary, cyberspace makes life more spontaneous and easy but at the same time, it makes us passive and less connected to the real world as we tend to just sit in front of the computer connecting to what’s happening around but not really relating physically to it.

how communication is important..

oral and writing are just two option on how people can communicate with one another and this has started during the prehistoric days.

let try to visualize the early age.

A hunter try to talk around with his fellow hunters and strategize how they will hunt the pray.

after hunting and celebrating for what they hunt, those people drew on cave just tell what happen on that day. thats how writing probably started ;)

its kinda awesome how drawing turned out to have meaning and because of that, we started to think of them as a symbols and then signs.

lets visualize one more situation,

your an army going to be sent for world war 2 and your still at your place embracing and talking to your parents that you'll be okay and you will come back alive. thats how oral is. and when you are in the battleground. you write to your parents everything your going through. thats how writing is.

so talking to someone important or reading there letter can still be an equal result of a persons emotion.

I sound like I'm 18 going on 63.

The subject we looked forward to the most in elementary and highschool was Computer class because of two reasons. The first being: at that time, only a few places on campus was blessed with the gift of an air conditioning unit and the computer rooms belonged to this select few. Taking computer meant we were temporarily relieved from the heat of the poorly-ventilated classrooms and our restricting uniforms.

The next reason why we liked the subject was because every now and then, the professors would take pity on us and allow us to play games instead of studying our lessons. I think the only problem we had with our computer classes was the fact that in elementary, we did not have the luxury of clicking icons to open a program. At that time, we had to open MS-DOS and type in the instructions and the exact location of the file first.

Times have certainly changed from our primitive days. Now even my younger cousins are capable of maniplulating computers to meet their needs. Not only can they play games, they are also adept at using the internet. Occasionally, I even chat with my younger cousins - the ones that used to crawl around in their diapers in front of me.

Aside from being a good way of passing time and entertaining themselves, I think that being familiar with the computer and its many functions, it will help them in their schoolwork and actual jobs in the future. I just wish that they would also take the time to socialize IRL (in real life) and engage in physical activites like sports or something so they can be more well-rounded and less.. pale haha :)

enfants dans le Cyberspace

children in cyberspace....i can't think of anyone else to relate this matter to but my little sister...she probably knows more games than i do..in fact, her friendster is more advanced than mine..she actually knows how to put music in her profile and i can't even figure out how to do it..anyway, today's generation is so different than mine. when i was in garde school, i did all my projects hand-written and syempre dapat may borders pa on the sides..i realized that children are way lucky now that their seems to be endless advancements in computers.

however, because of computers or internet, children tend to become lazy. they spend gazillions of hours playing or checking out videos of high school musical stars...and they never get sick of them...`that's actually one of my biggest problems with my sister..i can't make her do her homework when she's busy on the net...i have to drag her out of the computer and bribe her just so she listens to me...

so you see too much of anything is bad enough.....too much of internet use can cause you headache...atleast it did to me...and for children to spend too much time being in the cyberspace results to laziness!

LIKE FLIES CAUGHT IN AN INESCAPABLE WEB

While waiting for my ride home, I happened to pass by a group of young kids, around 10 to 12 years of age, playing the ever popular game of jump rope. When suddenly, this kid falls down to his knees because his size-5 foot got caught amidst the rapid twists and turns of the ropes. Of course, it is expected that the kid would say a word or two to express his pain and it usually ends with remarks such "Ouch." To my surprise, this 10 year old boy said the F BOMB. Picture me as this dork without glasses raising his eyebrows and enlarging his... eyes. So I said, "What the f... crap." :) Is this how young kids react to booboos now?

I guess this shows how much more mature, if you could say such a thing, the children of this generation is now. And as such, it is unavoidable that these kids would end up on the Internet to do various things. So, how exactly do I see the concept of having CHILDREN IN CYBERSPACE? *Queue Twilight Zone Theme* Well, it has its PROs and CONs.

For one thing, kids who go online tend to have much exposure on the different kinds of information that can be picked up while reading texts in websites or forums. For example, they can learn different kinds of recipes or styles in paper folding. However, seeing that the Internet is uncontrollable when it comes to limiting information not made for minors, it can go overboard. Children are ultimately exposed to unacceptable, if not immoral, content.

A friend of mine also said shared to me that one of the major issues concerning this matter may be that the children lack the required maturity to filter and to comprehend certain situations. This is where flaming comes in. Learning when to retreat from a battle dictates maturity, however, since the children have not yet reached that point, more battles will result from a simple disagreement. This, of course, could lead to trouble in and outside cyberspace.

In addition, children do not understand the dangers and consequences of engaging into conversations with people over the internet. We have all seen crime reports about abductions and killings of innocent, young victims.

Anonymity is a double-edged sword. Though the internet lets you hide your true identity, how sure are you that the other person would not do the same?

It is appalling that parents do not seem to get fazed by this disturbing act of evil, which leads me to my next point.

It is the responsibility of the parents, then, to ensure the safety of their children every time they go to surf the internet. How hard is it to check from time to time what their kids are doing? If the parents do not do such, then I'm sorry *queue PGMA here*, but the parents lack the compassion, maturity, and responsibility to be called PARENTS. They are mere robots.

It is inevitable that the children of today will make use of technologies that seem to be as vital a resource as basic necessities such as food or water. It is the parents' duty, therefore, to wake up, to take notice, and to be responsible for their own genetic clones children.
