words..(do you prefer to say or to write what you mean?)

From an Internet Article i read about some of meaning of the oral culture and the written culture. All of them have points on how this two has differ. But for me there are words.

Oral Culture:
The spoken word is intimate, tied to the very breath and health of the speaker;
an oral tradition, it disappears when the oralists have all been killed;
carry emotional intonations as well as speech, and lacks the identifying characteristics
(pitch, tone, timbre, rate, etc.) that links speech to a speaker.
Written Culture:
The written word makes possible the autonomous survival of knowledge;
writing is impersonal, but writing displays styles;
writing had been introduced as a divine gift - from a civilization
In my own opinion, Oral or Written Culture has the way of giving their message to other people, but in different ways. Like in a Oral Culture it says that you can hear the voice of the one who is talking you can see of they are sincere or not. It also says that if the speaker have been killed there is no way for you to get the message. While in Written Culture they had been recognized as a divine gift in a civilization because they believed that there are some people who can write well. It also says that it is an impersonal because it is written in a paper and you can't see what is the emotion of the writer. But a friend of mine justified that writing is one of the sincere way of talking to a person using a sincere words to show your sincerity.
Again as for me, both of them are WORDS. There is a quotation that i remember it says "say your thoughts in a SWEET WORDS, because you might eat them" =) whether it is in oral and written let us be careful with the words we use.

Fallout

This is an image I thought that was funny, kid watering the plant of the future. Kids now days can be very knowledgeable towards anything and I am sure that technology has played a very big part of this despite good parenting, I’m sure that this is very plausible.

I myself am happy that I lived in this era of life because I am not just glad that God made me but also that I grew up in a civilization where technology has gone up very fast and I am learning as well as this develop. We all blog about the internet having limitless range and this is true, once that the source of data are very powerful, this can be used for the good and also bad. We have to see what would this cyber future lead to our children’s future. Time will reveal and we are the ones who will have to fix what we have done

No read, no write but Internet ready

My cousin is 7 years old. When he was 3, he would go to my house every dinner time to watch me play GTA: San Andreas, a video game for the Playstation 2. Karl, who did not know how to read or write and could barely say a few words at the time, was enamored by just watching the game. When I got bored of playing one time, I gave Karl the controller and he gave me a really big smile. He was so cute that I taught him how to play the game; I even put cheats so he could enjoy the game at its best. Unfortunately, Karl kept dying in the game, at first, it was okay putting the cheats all over again, but Karl, being a kid, kept dying every 5 minutes or so. I told him that I was tired of putting the cheats and that he should just enjoy it as it is. It kept happening everyday, I was bored of playing with the game so I let Karl play it as much as he wants to, if I was in a good mood, I’d put the cheats for him but if not then I wouldn’t even bother.

Little did I know, every time I would put the cheats, Karl would memorize it and at 3 years old, I was surprised to see him putting the cheats himself. I was so shocked that when his parents came home (Karl’s family is my neighbor and they have a door to our house) I called them to see what their son could do. The funny reaction was, they were so proud of him when he did the cheats. I remember when I was still young, my parents would tell me stories of how proud they were when I learned how to start talking at 2 yrs. Old, and there I was, witnessing parents being proud of their kid for memorizing video game cheats. Wow.

Karl, like most kids these days, is very literate with the use of technology. The sad thing is, with every good thing that exists, a bad thing will follow. Thieves, Internet Predators and Bad people roam the internet searching for victims. When I was a kid, the only thing I was afraid of was the monster behind the big tree that would take us if we didn’t go inside early. We just need to discipline the youth of today in order to help them and keep them away from troubles

Surfing Experience

No, this is not about surfing the waves for some insane reason because if you know me, I hate the ocean even if I love the beach.

Anyway, this is about an activity for COMPMED. This is all about my internet surfing experience.

Slow PC, slow internet and don't forget about the Dans Guardian. Those were downsides of internet surfing here in school.

I was just surfing through Multiply and my Blogger, and the PC took too long to respond, maybe because everyone else was using the internet.

Earlier today, I tried to type in the terms "Color wheel" and "Mickey Mouse" over at Google and it took me by surprise that images of those things were banned. BANNED! Why in the world will they ban Mickey Mouse and the Color Wheel?? The terms "Porn" came in. Crazy, ey? It just made me realize that the internet was so nasty than what it really seems to look like.

Those were pretty much my problems while surfing the internet.

There were positive things anyway, I got to check my mail, I got to check my Multiply site and even get to update my Blogger (Yes, I'll be passing this to my Professor and posting it as my blog entry as well). These are just a few things that I can check out of my list for the day.

That, I believe, sums up my experience, for this day alone. :)

Modern Kiddooo

d Children’s lives are already getting influenced by technology – and this is just the beginning. Computers and Internet are here to stay and software titles targeting young children continue to increase. Today, we find computers in use everywhere, whether we go to reserve a train ticket or to a Bank or even to book your ticket on the airplane. This is because it is faster and helps us complete our work. Actually even the businessman target the kids as their captured market and invite Parents and make them realized that their children need to develop strong computer skills.

Children are learning to read and write with computer games instead of homemade flash cards or from their teachers. They are reading their bedtime stories online instead of in bed with their parents or with their brother / sister. Slowly traditions are being broken and the computer is becoming a child’s learning tool. Many parents are buying computer learning games instead of board games, books or even flashcards.

Parents are leaving the learning up to the computers and spending less quality time with their children, no physical interactions or anything. The most important learning step for children is interaction with others the physical or emotional interactions from the members of their family. If they are sitting in front of the screen all day, they do not learn to share, wait their turn, or even something as simples as manners. Children need to be in contact with other children, adults, animals and with the environment. They need to experience things first hand not off a computer screen, they have to play outside, play in the mud with other kids, experience negative things and learn from it. “Experience is the best Teacher” that’s what my English teacher remind us when I was on my senior year on my high school and I believe it’s true.

ELECTRIKIDS

I was born on the last period of the 80's and I grew up during an era, where Japan was on its break of covering the face of technology with alot of interactive video console games; among these is the legnedary Family Computer, I was so amazed that I can hurt and control the people I see on tv. Along these times the PC, although it plays a major role at adult's work and is a familiar site at home. Most of the programs and features that I see adults fiddling with the PC is just plain typing and an endless game of minesweeper. So everything that I did and got interested with then are just video game consoles that keeps on getting better and better every time they release one.

However, this is not how the world of kids run along nowadays. The sequence have been toppled upside down and hundreds of kids know more about programming, PC game and digital animation compared to those of the adult majority. These kids start using the PC as early as they start to speak and walk and some guys who play major roles in IT frims are teenagers. A phenomenal factor that continues to help develop the PC into something which everyone of all ages can consider a necessity; is the internet. The internet has made the computer play a vital role in the workplace through helping out people settle a deal and have everybody in the company synchronized and updated by just sitting in front of the PC and through clicking the mouse. The kids who study and will therefore consist of what will happen to our future, utilize the computer in amuch more significant way compared to their notebooks and notes. The internet definitely made education a lot easier and faster compared to how it used to be centuries ago. The kids can finish their paperwork and researches about Africa, bombs, reptiles, legends and nebulas by just using their computer and come up with such amazing outputs.

The kids are constantly being delivered of thousands of different games that allows them to be their favorite superheroes than by just watching them and through the linkage of the internet, hundreds of kids from all over the world can play together in constant synchronization! Wowww!!! That is what's probably gathering these kids in front of computers afterschool, everyday. Kids as early as 7 years old can have a Friendster or MySpace connection that can expose them to thousands of people all over the world. I myself, as an ordinary student does use these certain features of rapid messaging and limitless communication that even distance can not stop it

you can be who you want to be

I took this picture from flickr.com where i was searching for avatars. An avatar is a virtual representation of yourself. You can customize your avatar to however you please. The avatars are used for virtual reality games and virtual chat lines. There are actually pros and cons to this.

In these chat rooms people who are shunned by society because of their looks or personality can roam free in the virtual world being who they really are inside. They are more confident and more open to conversation not thinking if anyone is judging them. This is a good thing actually especially for those people who have low self esteem they have a feeling of belongingness.

But of course there is a bigger downs side. Virtual reality is not real and some people do mix it up for their reality and in the end they become depressed and violent. Also it can be scary especially for people who are ignorant of the fact that there are predators online who get personal information and in the end stalk and ultimately harm people.

For those people who do enjoy being in the virtual world they must be careful because you will never really know who is on the other end of the chat line.

My Childhood VS. Today's Childhood

First and foremost, I am proud to say that I was raised very well by my parents. I had a childhood that I can probably describe as a happy one. (Nakanang! Hahaha.)

But I will not try to sugarcoat everything and be a hypocrite by saying that I had a perfect childhood or that I am a perfect person.

Basta yun! :))

Anyway, how is this relevant? Obviously, sa generation ngayon, kahit 5-year old kids marunong na magnavigate ng internet. Seriously! Yung pinsan ko who just turned 5 last year was asking me if I had a friendster. Come on! Hahahaha.

There's nothing wrong naman with that eh. But sometimes, the internet becomes a distraction rather than somethign that kids would enjoy. There have been arguments na nga na instead of kids playing outside with other kids, having their exercise through running and playing patintero or piko, they're tuned in sa internet. Googling stuff and surfing the net. I never had that kind of childhood. I had my petty fights with kababatas simply because they won't give back my tsinelas. I had those experiences when I was a kid.

I think this argument about the internet and how kids easily connect to it is an issue that would hardly end. I mean let's face it, technology is taking over. Next thing we know there'll be flying cars around us or robots would be helpers. Gets ba yung point ko dito? Hahaha. It's just that lang hirap lang talaga isettle yung ganitong issue.

For my last few words about this matter, good luck. Hahaha :))

Kids these days.(cybernet)

What is the difference between the kids these days compare to the kids back in 20 years? Well, first of all things that we have notice is that kids these days are more assisted with technology with there contentment, there education purposes and hint to becoming a better person. Sounds optimistic right? I really think that kids that our stuck in there computers or console has the less skills of conversation to the outside world. Why? Cause for example, in Japan, stereo-typing is like a culture already in Japan. An “OTAKU” is one type of people which we can call nerds or geeks. And kids that can be treated unfairly or might even be called “aliens” to most of the people since its like these kind of people that have there own world already.

Now, envisage kid’s way back like 1970’s. the days when Nokia phone didn’t exists, no laptop, no palm, no solar, no Bluetooth, no electric communication device! How do you think people had people talk back then? Simple, they meet! It’s like they have a choice right?! Weather it’s important or not, people would have to meet up. That’s why for me, I would prefer to stay in that era cause let see, dating would be more exciting rather than send a text “wer na u?” and check on your phone waiting for a 5 to forever minutes on a reply. Or exercise and try anything sport related and become physically fit than learn to hold a button in a control and get the timing to shoot in a virtual basketball game while lying down. See the difference?
