"Batang-bata ka pa at marami ka pang
Kailangang malaman at intindihin sa mundo
Yan ang totoo
Nagkakamali ka kung akala mo na
Ang buhay ay isang mumunting paraiso lamang
Batang-bata ka lang at akala mo na
Na alam mo na ang lahat na kailangan mong malaman
buhay ay di ganyan
Tanggapin mo na lang ang katotohanan
Na ikaw ay isang musmos lang na wala pang alam
Makinig ka na lang, makinig ka na lang. . ."
Try to sing or say this to a kid of these times and most probably you'll hear
them saying, "What are you talking about?" or "Talk to the hand!"
I'm not saying that all of them
will react this way, but I think most of them will. One thing I observe about
kids nowadays is that they feel mature and that they have authority over
themselves. They can also easily interact with adults compared with kids before.
I am always surprised with kids talking and acting like adults.
we can say that this can be an effect of their exposure on the television and especially the Internet. Through the Internet, they can do a lot things. They can discover and know
things that are supposed to be for adults only. And we cannot see pages in the
Internet that says, warning: only for adults or "Parental guidance is recommended", so the kids will think that they also have the freedom to those information. In the long run, they are gradually influenced by the
so-called "reality" that the cyberspace serves them.
But we cannot also blame the kids, they are still their parents' or the adults' responsibilities. Maybe we are too overwhelmed by the advantages we can get from the
cyberspace that we tend to let the kids
spend hours in the Internet. The kids won't know that they are exposing themselves negatively on cyberspace if the parents or
adults won't do their part in protecting the kids from the possible harms it can bring.
In our house, I act like the DANSGUARDIAN to my
brothers and sisters, I try to monitor the sites they're browsing in the Net and
i also limit their Internet consumption hehe (that's why they hate
their Ate hahaha). And i always remind them that the Internet is really
helpful but it does not mean that everything they find there is true and that
they cannot find every answer they need through the Google.hihi
So kahit anu pa sabihin nila, "Batang-bata ka pa at marami ka pang Kailangang malaman at intindihin sa mundo. . .Yan ang totoo. . ."

yan ung fear ko with aica becasue she knows how to surf the net na and even sites na for kids naman but still a lot of things could still be exposed on that site...i don't trust anymore any children site except for disney of course where i get my recipes but kahit hindi lang malalaswang images eh..even inappropriate words or jargons used in the internet they can learn...i was surprised once when aica asked me about what a condom was? so then i aske dher where she got that from? then she said sa isang commercial....i didn;t know what to answer so i just said ur too young to know that...but i didn;t think that was right to say that..i thot there cud have been a better way to respond to her curiosity...i couldve said na it's a medicine or anythign to that sense..but i guess not only sa cyberspace but everything around them could have a bad influence if the parents or ates and kuya will not protect them form those things...the world is getting more evil talaga.
Sometimes the more the kids are banned from enjoying the Internet at its extent, the more they tend to not listen and go for it anyway.
Little runts. :)
nilagyan mo pa talaga ng song loved it...
I think everybody goes through that phase when we think we know everything and we can't wait to socialize with the adults. Sure, it's fun to be "babied" and spoiled but we all want to feel like our opinions are recognized and valued, that we belong in a world far greater than ours.
However, I think tama yung approach mo. We can't protect our younger siblings or cousins from the evil in the world forever but we can be vigilant against it while we can.
well like SOS said depriveing them can also result in their rebellion. But hey its human instinct. not to justify their little rebellions but since the policies in the net are variable and difficult to contain therefore the trip to cyberspace can barely be contained unless you're technical expertise in the technology is adept as well.
If they best you in this technology who is to say that they arent learning anything right? even if its being used against you. :P
although there are safe modes save in your pc, the kids could easily switch it off and can view graphic images that are not suitable for their ages. I think that there should something like a security thing that only adults could access.
I gathered some key terms from your post and the corresponding comments on it. These terms are:
control, parental guidance, rebellion, internet policies, technical expertise, security system,
(I'll continue on this in a while)
owww yeah! Such things are very rampant nowadays. Although ever since communication existed, such inventions has exposed and alarmed parents of what threats it can give to the kids. Like the tv, parents really are having a hard time filtering all the bad content so that kids would only be aware of what should be for them and inturn such warnings and announcements made for public awareness. i think that it is upon the safeguarding and onlooking of the parents that these kids would become responsible of whatever irrelevant content they get.
