First and foremost, I am proud to say that I was raised very well by my parents. I had a childhood that I can probably describe as a happy one. Pinalaki kami ng parents ko na may takot sa Diyos, may respeto sa nakakatanda, at syempre marunong sumunod sa pangaral. (Nakanang! Hahaha.) We had our restrictions pero hindi naman sobrang strict ng parents ko. Kami din mismong magkakapatid alam namin ang limitations namin. Alam namin ang makakasama at makakabuti sa amin.
But I will not try to sugarcoat everything and be a hypocrite by saying that I had a perfect childhood or that I am a perfect person.
Basta yun! :))
Anyway, how is this relevant? Obviously, sa generation ngayon, kahit 5-year old kids marunong na magnavigate ng internet. Seriously! Yung pinsan ko who just turned 5 last year was asking me if I had a friendster. Come on! Hahahaha.
There's nothing wrong naman with that eh. But sometimes, the internet becomes a distraction rather than somethign that kids would enjoy. There have been arguments na nga na instead of kids playing outside with other kids, having their exercise through running and playing patintero or piko, they're tuned in sa internet. Googling stuff and surfing the net. I never had that kind of childhood. I had my petty fights with kababatas simply because they won't give back my tsinelas. I had those experiences when I was a kid. Ngayon parang konting time nalang yung allotted para sa mga outdoor games kasi maeron na namang internet eh. At may games nadin sa net na sobrang sayang laruin.
I think this argument about the internet and how kids easily connect to it is an issue that would hardly end. I mean let's face it, technology is taking over. Next thing we know there'll be flying cars around us or robots would be helpers. Gets ba yung point ko dito? Hahaha. It's just that lang hirap lang talaga isettle yung ganitong issue.
For my last few words about this matter, good luck. Hahaha :))

This is a nice read - has a fresh view on the subject at hand, it's easy to relate to, and has a good sense of humor too. :-) I agree with you... your description in the first paragraph do sound like the old wholesome way of rearing kids. It also seems like you are acquainted to traditional Filpino games - patintero and piko (among others) - games that have provided and taught kids how to develop sportsmanship, relate with other children, and even develop problem solving skills. I guess you're part of the few lucky ones who have a more or less balanced exposure to the two worlds (real and off-line).
Chances are, the debate on the effects of the internet to children's intellectual, physical, social, emotional, and moral development will escalate in the years to come, with both the good and the bad sides earning their share of points. In the meantime, it will probably be most prudent to have a clear head on these developments and developing a keen sense on changes (incremental or drastic) to may occur to the children's over-all development.
For me, I know how to play the traditional Filipino games but I don't participate in them. So, you can say that I have knowledge on the different activities a typical Filipino kid would enjoy in but at the same time I also enjoy modern stuff like computers.
Just sharing hehehe :)
